As season seven showed is that our heroes can just continue living without Elena (Nina Dobrev).
Damon is however confronted with long and deep emotional breakdown while waiting for Elena’s return, he continues his friendship with Bonnie (Kat Graham). Stefan (Paul Wesely) and Caroline (Candice King) begun their much predicted relationship, it was however complicated by a rather unexpected role of Caroline as the surrogate mother of the twin infants left behind when Alaric (Matt Davis) happens to lose his wife.
However, Damon against the will of his mother Lily (Annie Wersching) pursues a vendetta. Lily actually abandoned her son Damon to take care of vicious brood of vampire witches called the Heretics- one of which Valerie loved Stefan ever since their romantic scene in the last century.
Lily’s misguided choices finally result in her own tragic demise and put Mystic Falls in the view of a formidable nemesis. Ryana Cruz , a basic vampire hunter targets Stefan causing him to run and leave behind Caroline in order to start with Alaric.
In order to beat Rayana, Damon gets enlisted to help the Armory, who is a shadowy group having family ties with Bonnie’s charming boyfriend Enzo. While in turn the better cheats of the Armory robs bonnie out of her magic powers and cause her a life threat.
To do the damage control, Damon along with Enzo set out on a venture in to the occult vault of Armory, where evil overcomes them.
The triangle of Stefan, Caroline and Alaric will actually get together with Bonnie in order to find out the main two characters in series and in their lives.
